Heartworms in Dogs

Worms are a danger to many creatures on earth. Parasitic in nature, these worms can easily rob a creature of vital nutrients and strength, turning them into shadows of their former selves. Dogs, again, tend to react negatively to Heargard if they are already infected, though cats can take it whether the worm is present or not. This is why Heartgard is a prescription only drug and responsible vets will put your animal through thorough testing before giving you the prescription. There is another version of Heartgard, Heartgard Plus, which takes care of other worms as well, making it a well rounded drug.

Generally, Heartgard is taken once a month as a bite sized snack for your pets and in an amount that corresponds with their age. The drug should be treated with care and respect, as while even sensitive dog breeds will be able to take this drug, taking too much of it can easily be fatal to your favorite companion. Used properly however, Heartgard has been approved by various government agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency.
